Launch status: Shelf is preparing for its App Store release. This guide describes the app’s current design. There is no public download linked yet.
Set up the Shelf keyboard
- Open Shelf at least once and save a snippet.
- In iOS, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard, then select Shelf.
- Open the Shelf keyboard’s settings and enable Allow Full Access.
- In an app such as Notes, hold the globe key and choose Shelf. Tap a snippet to insert it.
Full Access is needed for the shared local library and explicit paste control. The keyboard never makes network requests or records host keystrokes. Some secure fields and apps intentionally use the system keyboard. Shelf uses iOS’s globe control when it is supplied by the system.
Save from another app
Select code in Safari or another app, open the system Share sheet, and choose Shelf. If Shelf is missing, look under More and enable the extension. Review the title, language, suggested labels, and any credential warning before saving.
You can also paste code in Shelf or tap the keyboard’s explicit paste control. At the Free limit, open Shelf to review your library or Pro options. If iOS blocks an extension’s Open Shelf action, open Shelf manually from your Home Screen.
iCloud and offline use
Shelf uses the iCloud account configured on your device; it does not need a separate login. You can work offline, and sync resumes when iCloud is available.
- Check that both devices use the intended iCloud account and that iCloud is available for Shelf.
- Check connectivity and available device/iCloud storage, then open Shelf on both devices and allow time for sync.
- Do not delete or reinstall the app as a first troubleshooting step. Export important code before making changes that could remove local data.
On-device suggestions
Apple Intelligence features require an eligible device on iOS 26 or later. Other devices receive editable offline Basic suggestions. Suggestions have no usage quota on Free or Pro. If a suggestion seems wrong, edit it before saving.
Purchases, restore, and cancellation
Apple displays current prices and trial eligibility before purchase. To restore eligible purchases, use Restore Purchases in the app with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
To manage or cancel Pro, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. See Apple’s cancellation guide. For a purchase refund request, follow Apple’s refund instructions. Deleting your Shelf library or uninstalling Shelf does not cancel a subscription.
If Pro ends, existing snippets remain readable, editable, copyable, exportable, and available in the keyboard. New saves are limited by the Free plan.
Delete all Shelf data
- Export anything you want to keep.
- Open Shelf → Settings → Profile → Delete All Shelf Data.
- Read the confirmation and authenticate with your device.
- Check the result. If cloud deletion fails, follow the visible retry option when connected.
This removes local library models and requests deletion from Shelf’s dedicated private iCloud container. If you are not signed into iCloud, the app reports device-only deletion. To delete data from a previous iCloud account, sign into that account and repeat the deletion. Changes reach other devices as iCloud syncs.
Apple Account identity, subscriptions, backups, exported files, and Gists are separate. Delete Gists at GitHub and manage Apple services through Apple. You do not need to send us your snippets to delete the library.
